17-18 October 2016, Entebbe, Uganda
Carbon Africa jointly with Climate Focus ran a two day workshop in Uganda preparing over 40 participants from Eastern Africa for COP22 in Marrakesh. The event focussed on supporting the region in developing a deeper understanding of the provisions of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement which includes carbon markets, a CDM like mechanism and non-market approaches. The event was organised by The Deutsche Gesellschaft f??r Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with the East African Community Secretariat (EAC) with support from the UNFCCC Regional Centre Kampala (RCC Kampala). The workshop concluded that East Africa Africa should work with the international community to ensure that the provisions within Article 6 are developed as viable support tools for low carbon development pathways in the region and that transition measures for the existing CDM pipeline should be developed at the earliest opportunity.
