An African venture, following formulation support by Carbon Africa, has been pre-selected as a model project under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) financing programme. The pre-selection was made in January 2019 with the project being one of six qualified from the 2nd call of Japanese fiscal year 2018. The final announcement on the project, estimated to generate over 30,000 tonnes CO2 (tCO2) emission reductions per year, is expected to be made in April 2019.

Carbon Africa has been supporting JCM model project formulation in Kenya and Ethiopia since 2012, undertaking the project identification process, compiling regulatory information, providing advice on opportunities in different sectors and facilitating stakeholder engagement. Through its financing programme JCM supports the implementation of low-carbon technology projects in return for acquiring JCM credits, which contribute to Japan’s GHG emission reduction target.
