Matthew has vast expertise in supporting the development and implementation of clean tech and climate change actions with a particular focus on renewable energy and energy access, recently coordinating a World Bank publication on Mini-girds in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to setting up Carbon Africa, Matt was a technical expert at UNEP for six years where he was involved in the implementation of over 30 projects in 15 different countries and in raising over USD 7 million in project financing and helped to lead UNEP’s work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation. Matt holds a BA in Anthropology (University of Victoria, Canada) and a certificate in wind power project feasibility (Clean Energy Institute, Canada).
