On Tuesday 29th December 2020, Kenya’s Grid Emission Factor Standardized Baseline (GEF SB), as developed by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) the Designated National Authority (DNA), entered into force following approval by the CDM Executive Board.

The GEF SB was developed with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), with Carbon Africa contracted as the lead technical consultants.

This standardised factor provides project owners and developers in the power sector with a simplified method for determining the associate emission reductions from their ventures, and has a 3-year validity period running until 28th December 2023.

The approved standardized baseline “ASB0050-2020: Grid Emission Factor for the Republic of Kenya (version 01.0)” is available on the CDM website: http://cdm.unfccc.int/methodologies/standard_base/2015/sb4.html
